Jaye R Beutel |Thorold Housemaster
We are well into the term now, the halfway point is nearing frighteningly close at the moment. In this edition we introduce a few new faces to Thorold; Mr Nick McLean and Mr Tom Stevens, who join the residential team, along with two great young men on exchange from Montgomery Bell Academy (USA).
Week 4 will see the Year 7 – 10 boys gearing very much towards a heavy assessment period, this will be for the next fortnight. It is in this light I recommend limited leave during both week nights and weekends, allowing the boys every opportunity to be on top of tasks. The House will observe two study sessions on Sunday’s, 10.30am – 12noon, then 2pm until 4pm, over the next few weeks.
I will be away for parts of the upcoming weekends, please refer any pressing matters and leave changes during these periods to Mr Josh McQueen – 0406 161 957
Over the next few weeks we will be addressing a spike in unnecessary visits to “Over the Road” (OTR) leave. More will come from the Dean of Boarding later this week, however it is advantageous that everyone is aware that changes are a foot and will not overly impact our boys, but more succinctly place OTR as a leave privileged not a given. I will be working closely with our Thorold Boys as the new expectations roll out. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me should you want to discuss the finer points of this newsletter or have a concern or observation you wish to raise.
Who you are? Hi everyone, my name is Nick McLean. I’m excited to be joining the TSS community, particularly the Thorold tribe. A few key things about me:
Where you’re from? I hail from Miami – best place on the GC. However, I’ve travelled pretty extensively throughout our great State, from Yeppoon to Chinchilla.
What you are studying or working towards? I’m currently undertaking a Bachelor of Laws/Diploma of Languages (Mandarin Chinese) at Griffith University. As you might be able to guess, I’m interested in pursuing a career in Asia; however, I haven’t ruled out North America or Europe if the opportunity arises.
My name is Tom Stevens, I am 18 and from the south west of the UK, near Bath. I will be working in Thorold as a Junior Resident Master for the the next year, after I will be returning to the UK to study Sports Science & Performance at the university of Bath.
My interests are sports and traveling, I am coaching the U13 C’s and D’s this term and I will be helping with rowing next term. During the school holiday I will be traveling to New Zealand and Tonga.
