TSS Basketball – Week 1 v BSHS

Brendan Le Gassick | Director of Basketball

Open 1st X

The opening GPS round was highly anticipated with several players returning from last year’s controversial loss against BSHS. An explosive atmosphere at Centenary Centre led by the school’s marching band and an erupting South grand stand. Both teams traded basket for basket in the first half with the scores at 41 to 35 in TSS’s favour. After the main break the nerves had settled seeing TSS taking their defense to another level. Effort plays from Lachlan Mills with an outstanding 24 rebounds combined with Cody Gager’s electrifying dunks saw a 16-3 offensive run, proving too much for the visiting team and securing a 22-point win.

Open 2nds / 3rds X

The Open 2nd’s had a strong win 43-27 led by sharp shooter Ethan Williams, leading the way with 5 three pointers. The Open 3rd’s falling short against a very tough unit.

Year 11

11A’s were fortunate to have 3 Open 1st squad members who suited up: Oliver Hill, Cody Meuleman and Zac Gregory. Their experience and skill proved too much for BSHS, coming away with a 5-point win, 46-41. 11B’s and C’s were both defeated in close competitive matches.

Year 10

With a solid performance in this year level, we managed to secure 3 out of 5 wins. 10A’s had a tough loss, however, the game was filled with exciting plays led by Open 1st squad members: Brock McMahon and Max Levis. 10B’s were able to crawl back from a 7-point deficient by the efforts of Declan McCarthy’s 14 points off the bench and Matthew Manley’s 12 rebounds.

Year 9

In a very competitive year level, we lost all games in close results. Our best result for the round was the 9C’s who lost 32 to 40.

Year 8

We had a tough opening round across all levels and lost all games to BSHS. It appears BSHS were well organised and executed defensively. We expect improvement in this year level with training now underway. A pleasing effort by the 8C’s losing by 8 points.

Year 7

Again, we found BHSH very tough opposition in Round 1, losing all round games. Our closest result was the 7C’s 12 to 18.

ROUND 2 – Saturday July 22, 2017 will be away at Toowoomba Grammar School and Supplementary Games hosted at Brisbane Boys’ College
