Mr Steven Baker – Director of Cricket
TSS Cricketers have been training hard and many have achieved notable representative selections that were conducted over the last month or so. We wish to congratulate Jack Sinfield and Lachlan Crump who achieved Qld U17 Selection.
Queensland u17 finished third in the National titles in Mackay, winning its play-off match against Victorian Metro after losing its semi-final to eventual champions Western Australia. Lachlan chimed in with bat and ball and in particular his scores of 24no and 41no power hitting at end of the innings and his 3/24 are highlights.
Jack kicked on from his 41 in 1st Grade Premier Cricket to score 65 and 22 in the early stages of the Nationals coupled to taking 5 wickets at excellent economy with his off Spin bowling. Jack deservedly earned National U17 selection to play in the National U19’s Tournament in December. He will be playing against TSS team mate in Hugo Burdon who has earned re-selection this year for Qld U19’s who continues to thrive in QCA 1st Grade Premier Cricket.
Liam O’Connor earned Qld U15’s selection which played NSW 15’s in a series of matches at Maroochydore. Queensland won the two T20 and drew 1-1 with NSW for the 50 over games. It was invaluable experience for Liam who played a key role with the ball and on the field. He was called to open the bowling on occasion with his Left Arm Spin.
Angus James (TSS Yr6) and William Slack Smith (TSS Yr7 Rogers) represented South Coast 12’s at the State Championships with Angus chipping in with bat and ball during the week and William contributing with scores of 25, 32 and 45. Well done Boys!
It has been a big month for TSS Old Boys Cricketers with Billy Stanlake and Michael Neser close to Australian selection and Sam Hain (England A)/ Blair Tickner (NZ T20) performing well. It is pleasing to note that Sol Budinger has earned a contract with Trent Bridge (Eng) and Callum Taylor debuting in T20 with Glamorgan (Eng). Matt Kuhnemann, Xavier Bartlett and Billy Stanlake have Qld buzzing in the One day/ Shield formats currently.
TSS played John Paul College in the first knock out stage of the QLD Schools T20 Cricket State Cup.
Winning the toss TSS decided to bat on a flat pitch making for excellent batting conditions. TSS lead by their captain Hugo Burdon (52) and Mitch Freeman (51) and with some late big hitting from Ky Newitt (27n.t) TSS posted an excellent total of 192 for 6. TSS restricted John Paul College to 67 for 6 after their 20 overs. Hugo Burdon and Jack Hocart both picked up 2 wickets.
TSS then played a very determined Nudgee College to progress to the next stage of the state cup finals. Nudgee College won the toss and batted first in excellent batting conditions. Nudgee got off to an incredible start with the first wicket falling at 228. Nudgee finished their 20 overs at 2 for 259, thanks mostly to one of the best batting displays from Mitchell Pascoe finishing with 163 off 70 balls and his opening partner Jet Liebke 80n.t off 45 balls. TSS batters went about running down the 13 runs an over as best they can with Jack Kann leading the way with 56 off 33 balls. TSS were eventually bowled out on the last over to finished with 168.
TSS couldn’t get any momentum throughout their innings as they were always chasing an very high run rate. Well done to the boys and supporters through the season and best wishes to our departing Year 12s – Hugo Burdon, Mitch Freeman, Jack Kann, Cody Durante, Matt Manley, Ky Newitt, Matthew eddoes and Peter Lynch.
Congratulations to Nudgee on an outstanding performance.
