TSS Cricket Round 4 vs BGS 2018

Round 4 of the GPS cricket saw BGS prove to be a high quality opponent and they played very good cricket across their teams.

The Opens Teams lead the charge though for TSS with 1st XI and 2nd XI Winning well off the bat of captain Ben Funnell and bowling of Jack Rayner to stay atop of the ladder in 2nd XI. 7A’s also continued on their merry way staying undefeated in clinical fashion with Daniel Statham again amongst the runs with 56*. 9A’s had a thrilling match chasing a run a ball total for much of the match but fell short all out in the last ball of the innings whilst in front on comparative score! 11B’s paced themselves well to haul in the large total of 175 off 25 overs and 3rd XI incredibly had a TIE in their T20 Bash. 10B, 10C, 8B and 7B also recorded wins.

Special mention also goes to Mitch Freeman for his knock of 85no and Sam Heathwood backing up his hundred of last week with 37.

TSS 1st XI Lost the toss and bowled first on a TSS “belter” wicket courtesy of our terrific ground staff. Ky Newitt again went about his work…possibly bowling even tighter than his 6 wicket haul of last week vs TGS. Scoring for BGS was very difficult and it wasn’t long before 2 superb run outs by captain Hugo Burdon from this team pressure and 2 wickets to Ky that BGS were in deep trouble at 6/37. BGS decided attack was the best form of defence and basically tried to slog their way out of this…only getting to 97 and dismissed with all catches going to hand. BGS came out fired up and threw everything they had and could at the TSS top order but Hugo Burdon stood firm with Ky Newitt to see TSS to the win. Hugo hit the BGS Right Arm Leg Spinner for 3x Sixes in his innings and Harry Lickiss sealed the double bonus point win in the 24.4 overs with 1 ball to spare.

TSS 1st XI have extended their lead at top of the table but an outstanding match up awaits next Saturday vs 2nd placed BBC.
