TSS Defeat BBC 5-3 in match of the season

Over the weekend the TSS Tennis First IV displayed one of the greatest performances in the last decade with a gutsy 5-3 win against a strong BBC lineup. This is the first time since 2002 that TSS has beaten BBC this emphatically. The day started with singles and the TSS boys came out of the blocks well with Timmy Yeung Packer and Nic McKenzie both playing superb tennis, winning 6/3 6/2 and 6/3 6/1 respectively. Wylie Bucknell held his own and matched his opponent, who was ranked nearly 3000 spots higher than him, for most of the encounter, but ended up falling 6/3 6/3. The turning point of the day came when #1 player Alec Braund came back from 6/2 5/3 down to take the second set 7/5 and ultimately grind his opponent down 6/4 in the decider.

With TSS up 3-1 after singles, not even a bunch of unsportsmanlike and shameful acts from the opponents could stop the #1 doubles pairing of Nic McKenzie and Alec Braund as they breezed through their reverse doubles 6/3 6/3, while Wylie and Timmy fought hard but dropped their match against the BBC #1 pairing.

Going into the final doubles matches the TSS boys needed 2 sets to claim victory and it was Timmy Yeung Packer and Wylie Bucknell who rose to the occasion first, coming back from a break down in the first set to win it in a tie breaker. Both boys played incredibly clutch tennis under pressure. After dropping the first set on court 1, Alec Braund and Nic McKenzie lifted when it mattered to seal the win for TSS with a 3/6 6/4 10/7 victory.

Over the course of the day, captain Nic McKenzie displayed one of the most alpha performances ever witnessed at TSS Tennis. He crushed his opponent in singles and his displays of power, intensity and positivity throughout the doubles lifted the rest of the team when it mattered.

The First IV travel to TGS this coming weekend.
