TSS Senior Wellbeing Festival

Andrew Hawkins – Deputy Headmaster, Head of Senior School

At Assembly last week I invited Years 7 to 12 to complete a survey to indicate which activities they would like to participate in at our first Wellbeing Assembly to be held this term. I also asked for suggestions for any other activities that could be included in the list within reason. The purpose of the Wellbeing Festival is for the boys to immerse themselves in an activity and demonstrating mindfulness in the process.

At present the activities on offer will include:

  • Swimming session – TSS Aquatic
  • ZUU Fitness class – taken by Brad Lawton (S & C Assistant trained as a ZUU Instructor)
  • Chess competition
  • Yoga/Pilates
  • Running group
  • Art Workshop
  • Drama Workshop
  • Table Tennis tournament
  • 3 on 3 Basketball tournament
  • Social Tennis game/class
  • Martial Arts session Short intensive CPR course
  • Fishing
  • Golf
  • Life Saving skills
  • Nutrition and supplements education session
  • Study session and assignment help
  • 5-a-side Football
  • Speech Variety
  • Road Cycling
  • Robotics session
  • Healthy cooking class
  • Rock Climbing

We are looking at running a Wellbeing Festival each term should this prove a success. The intention is however to withdraw on rotation one of two cohorts to be presented with the theory and content behind wellbeing and positive education. For our first festival we are looking at an alternative session for the Year 7 Wellbeing Festival that will include a presentation from Relationships Australia on sexual health, drugs and alcohol.
We are looking at either May 26 or June 1 for the festival that will take place during Assembly 11:45am-12:45pm depending on availability of outside instructors and facilitators. The date will be confirmed by the end of this week. All senior boys will wear PE Uniform to and from school that day.
I have asked Alliance to only serve healthy food options in the Café and the Dining Hall during the school day. It is my hope that boys who bring their own lunch to school only bring healthy options on the day also.
If you have any ideas or suggestions for the Wellbeing Festival please call me via the school switchboard on 5531 9911 or email andrew.hawkins@tss.qld.edu.au
