Mr John Wallace – Speech and Variety Coordinator
A warm invitation is extended to all boys in TSS Years 7-12 to join this exciting, challenging, invigorating and enriching co-curricular activity for 2020.
What boys will gain from their experience, are skills for LIFE in communication. Speech and Variety is partly based on the traditional Toastmasters format. Boys will develop skills in Impromptu Speech, Prepared Speech and Evaluation.
In 2020, skills will be extended to support speech in other school related activities. Examples are – a vote of thanks or introducing a speaker. At the end of the season in Term Three, there will be an Impromptu Speech Competition and a Main Speech Competition. Meetings are held in Terms 1, 2, 3. Membership is for those boys who are… a student of TSS in Years 7 – 12 who has a genuine desire to improve his public speaking skills and enjoys listening to others in the art of public speaking. This club wants to help boys improve their confidence in public speaking and give them the necessary skills to speak openly in the public arena. It also wants to provide the platform to seek excellence in oratory.
THE PHILOSOPHY OF TSS SPEECH & VARIETY CLUB
a) To provide a platform for and to increase confidence and excellence in public speaking.
b) To develop the art of speaking and listening to others, to respect fellow speakers and to appreciate individuality in every person who speaks.
c) To have fun and enjoy speaking to an audience.
d) To become more articulate and to have a good command of the English Language.
e) To enhance Leadership skills as embraced by The Southport School.
