Mr John Wallace – Humanities/ Maths Teacher
Good to see nomination forms for this year rolling in which means that we are going to have another successful year in TSS Speech and Variety Club. As meetings are held during evenings so as not to interfere with many boys’ busy sporting schedules etc I need permission from parents to fulfil my Duty of Care responsibility. Thank you to parents for your understanding of this.
The format of the evenings will be as follows for 2018
First Meeting – an icebreaker and welcome
Semester One meetings will be dominated by Impromptu Speech and the successful delivery of them to an audience.
Semester Two will give the boys the opportunity to present practiced main speeches to an audience. Boys will also be given the opportunity to refresh their skill in Impromptu Speech. At the end of Term 3 boys in Years 7-9 will be invited to enter an Impromptu Speaking Competition.
In term Four Years 10-12 boys will be invited to enter an Impromptu Speaking Competition. There will also be a presentation evening for those boys who excel in public speaking and for those who have made consistent improvement in their speaking.
Boys will also be invited to enter the AB Paterson Public Speaking Competition in late October which is the presentation of main speeches from Years 7-12. This is held at the AB Paterson School. This competition is the most respected public speaking competition on The Gold Coast. Last Year TSS gained a first place in Year 8 and seconds in Year 7 and 11.
The main focus of TSS Speech and Variety is to improve boy’s confidence in public speaking and to give them the audience and the forum to do so. A skill for Life!
