Mr Nick Walton, Tennis Manager
The weekend against TGS showcased some great ability across the teams, as the players continue to develop and refine their skills at training. Some notable performances from George Schmidt in the 8C winning his singles 6-0, and Oscar Eddy continuing to show massive improvement winning 6-0 in his singles. Damian Blackmore winning a nailbitting 7-5 singles match, while Tom Ramsay was trying to finish strong, but going down in a tie-break 7-6. Great to see the boys across the program implementing the strategy and skills from our weekly sessions.
The TSS First IV took to the cold and windy courts, with an idyllic blue sky backdrop in what marked the third last fixture of 2021. At the start of singles, and fresh off a return from the Darwin ITF win, Alec Braund showed why he commands the #1 spot with a comprehensive 6-1, 6-1 dispatching of his opposition. Not to be outdone, Nic McKenzie rose to his previous round form after a slow start winning his second set 6-0 and putting TSS in the drivers seat. Kosta Kalageropolous showed why he was such a valuable addition to the First IV, winning 6-1, 6-1 in a match that belied how tough he had to grind. Wyle Bucknell rounded out the singles, taking another 3-set victory in his First IV career -winning 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.
As the doubles began, Nic and Alec continued to show their GPS dominance, making short work of TGS #2 pairing in straight sets without dropping a game and thus ensuring a win for the First IV. Kosta and Wyliehad to work extremely hard against both doubles pairings from TGS, with each doubles match going to a third set super tie-break. Down to the wire in both, the TSS boys managed to get across the line with a 10-8 win in the first super, and a 10-7 in the second tie-break. Congratulations must be given to Alec Braund who backed up to play GPS after winning the J4 Darwin ITF tournament the day before in a comprehensive win as well.
Well done to the TSS First IV who are looking in form going into our Nudgee College round. Good luck to all teams this coming weekend.
