Mr Jerry Kuo – Senior Chinese Teacher
Currently our Year 11 Chinese students are learning about the contribution of Chinese culture to the world.
In Jane Orton ‘s words (2008), “experiential learning is the best way to immerse students in the culture and use the language.” Thus, our Chinese class went to Taiwan Centre in Sunnybank to do a survey using Chinese as part of the curriculum requirements.
Other than practicing Chinese musical instruments, they also ordered their meals and purchased drinks using Chinese in Sunnybank Plaza. Students were amazed that there were Chinese characters being used everywhere and advertisements, flyers and newspapers are all in Chinese.
Due to Covid-19, we cannot plan a China or Taiwan tour but this is the closest thing we can get for students to immerse themselves completely in a local community.
