The Foundation has evolved to where it now stands at the very heart of The Southport School.

Established, in part, to provide leadership, Foundation members are actively engaged in both the School and the community as a whole. Many participate in various Support groups, Parents & Friends activities, and the Old Southportonians, and several members have gone on to serve on the School Council. All devote many hours throughout the year to the benefit of The Southport School and in this way, the Foundation shows leadership, provides a role model for the boys and inspiration to others.

In keeping with this ethos, the Foundation is also proud to provide three Scholarships each year to boys entering Year 6.

By making immediate building and maintenance funds available to the School, the Foundation is helping realise the School’s development plans as well as providing a secure foundation upon which to plan for the future.

Foundation History

Formed in 1986, The Southport School Foundation Limited aims to preserve and enrich the ideals already established by the School in two principal areas:

  • To make a total commitment to those ideals by constant support of them in the written and spoken word and by leadership in the schools community affairs
  • To gather sufficient financial resources to enable the realisation of the school’s development plans

Under the direction of its first Chairman, Senator Glen Shiel, the newly formed Foundation set about seeking leadership gifts from the School community for its Building Fund and in 1988 commenced a program of annual giving in the form of the Building Levy.

In 1992, the first Capital Projects Appeal was launched for the establishment of the Lupus Street Preparatory School campus. Since then, the Foundation has continued to support educational and building programs within the School. Through the generosity of members, Old Boys, past and current parents and Foundation supporters, we have been able to assist the School by donating to the following projects, thereby ensuring their successful completion:

  • The Harley Stumm Library Refurbishment
  • Preparatory School Multi-Purpose Hall
  • The Malcolm Broomhead Lecture Theatre
  • Refurbishment of Biddle House
  • Centenary Centre
  • Science Centre

In 1993, the monthly Business Breakfast was initiated by the Foundation as a way of bringing parents in business together and as a forum for the exchange of ideas. An annual Foundation Golf Day was also established, followed in 1998 with the implementation of a Scholarship program.

We gratefully acknowledge those past and present students and their families who have given generously to the Foundation since 1986 and provided many of the buildings and facilities that our boys enjoy today.
