Cricket at TSS

The Southport School has a proud tradition of over a hundred years of excellence on the Cricket field. TSS Cricket is a pathway to the professional level of the sport providing the opportunity for boys to represent both their State and Country. The TSS cricket department works hard with coaches to develop a progressive and dynamic program to advance the boys in their cricketing aspirations. We are fortunate to be blessed with many level 2 & 3 coaches as well as teaching staff who are involved.

Cricket is a popular summer sport and TSS Cricket provide for all levels of participation, with over twenty eight teams in the School. TSS Cricket offers many opportunities including the T20 Blast for boys in the Preparatory School and Specialist Program for Junior Preparatory boys. Additionally, TSS boys from Yr5-12 have access to progressive training and compete at a high level of schoolboy cricket each week in term 1, under the Queensland GPS competition which provides for a wide range of cricket abilities.

Selection as a member of the TSS 1st XI Cricket Team is a testament to hard work and determination. Boys who achieve this pinnacle do not achieve this without toil, vision and sweat. They don the Baggy Red, White & Blue and represent the ‘Firsts’ with pride.

The Southport School has had great success in GPS Cricket winning this title 23 times. TSS has won the coveted GPS Cricket Premiership most recently in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 & 2023. Moreover, the TSS 1st XI have won the coveted State Cup 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2017 & 2021 as well as touring each year to play challenging opposition. We are fortunate to play NSW Cricket U17 Training Squad each year in Sept holidays and tour in January each year with high performing Cricket Schools such as Kings College (Sydney), Hale School (Perth) and Scotch Oakburn (Tas).
